Expressive Arts Therapy

Workshops & Supervision

What is Expressive Arts Therapy?

The expressive arts combine the visual arts, movement, drama, music, writing, and other creative processes to foster deep personal growth and community development. IEATA (the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association) encourages an evolving multimodal approach within psychology, organizational development, community arts and education. By integrating the arts processes and allowing one to flow into another, we gain access to our inner resources for healing, clarity, illumination and creativity.
Irene Rodriguez offers expressive arts courses to fulfill the educational and supervision requirements of IEATA's Certificate of Expressive Arts as a faculty member of the Institute for Creative Mindfulness.

Certificate of Expressive Arts Therapy

The certificate program requires 75 educational hours and 25 hours of supervision with a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT), such as Irene. Check out the complete list of requirements here, or reach out to Irene to see how she can help you complete the program!

Dancing Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the simple practice of noticing without judgment, savoring the art of being in the moment. Mindfulness, psychodrama, meditation, and yoga are modalities that can promote wellness and recovery. “Dancing Mindfulness” incorporates all of these elements. Dance becomes the primary avenue through which to access mindful awareness!

Irene Rodriguez offers English and Spanish language Dancing Mindfulness Facilitator trainings both in person and online.

Visual Journaling Workshops

One of the best things about visual journaling is that you do not have to be an artist or have any previous experience, much less talent to practice. We all can express our emotions and feelings using the language of images.  Visual journaling may help you to express yourself as you get in connection with your emotions, feelings, thoughts, and creative intuition. You don't need to have any art experience. We'll take you through the deep of layers and layers of painting, collages, and writing until the pages of your journal speak to you. The messages you receive from your images will show you what changes you need to make in your life to begin your healing from within.

Introduction to Expressive Art Therapy

Expressive arts therapy is an approach to psychotherapy with roots in indigenous cultures and a rich history of evolution within modalities such as Jungian, person-centered, and Gestalt psychotherapies. Defined by its emphasis on the multi-modal process of healing (exploring many combinations for creativity rather than relying on just one art form), the strategies of expressive arts psychotherapy can prove useful to trauma therapists practicing in a variety of modalities. In this workshop, participants are oriented to the fundamentals of expressive arts therapy history and approach.

This course offer 6 CE credits and fulfills 6 educational hours towards the Certificate of Expressive Arts Therapy program with ICM.
